A diatom
Unicellular alga covered in silica. The photo of this diatom seen under an optical microscope evokes a dihedral symmetry of type D4; the disposition of the cells represents a tessellation which, at first sight, seems a tessellation in hexagons; but if we observe it more closely, we single out also some pentagons and heptagons.
