The double covering of a Moebius strip
If we cut a cylinder in two parts, we get two cylinders that can be disposed one on the other to form a double covering of the cylinder. Instead, if we cut a Moebius strip in two parts, we still have just one piece, which is a cylinder. The animation shows how this piece can be fold up to form a double covering of the Moebius strip.
