Symmetry in a flag

The flag of Japan is an example of a non-discrete group of symmetry (so, it is not a rosette): there are infinite rotations (even of arbitrary small angles) that send the figure in itself. If we consider the white rectangle where the drawing is inscribed, there are only two rotations (of 180° and 360°) and, being also two symmetry axes, the flag has dihedral symmetry of type D2.
